IHSA ZONE 7 - REGION 5

Photo
In this photo you have the only two Black Hawk College hunter seat riders ever to qualify for an IHSA Nationals event. On the left is hunter seat coach Alissa Frederick Cotton, who was tenth in what was then called individual novice over fences at 2013 Nationals (and who has since married former Black Hawk western coach Drew Cotton; The division is now called limit fences). In the middle is Sophia Napierski - Hamilton, a senior from Danville, Pennsylvania who was second in individual novice equitation at Zone 7 Zones in Lubbock, Texas on March 28th to qualify to compete at Nationals in the same division on May 1st. On the right is Black Hawk assistant coach Olivia Henning, who gets to be in the photo with the current and former English Nationals Qualifiers. One season ago Napierski - Hamilton was a member of the first Black Hawk team ever to win a hunter seat Region Title.

Zone 7, Region 5 is one of the largest IHSA Regions in land miles, which can best be explained by saying Kansas State can be found on the far left and Northern Illinois University on the far right and to the north (you have the entire state of Missouri in between). The NIU Huskies qualified one rider to 2026 IHSA Nationals and she is Abigail Jarovsky (on right). A sophomore from Hampshire, Illinois, Jarovsky won the individual limit on the flat at Zone 7 Zones in Lubbock, Texas on March 29th to reach Nationals. Seen here with head coach Joleen DeWitt, Jarovsky closed out the season with a fifth in the same division at IHSA Nationals in Mill Spring, North Carolina on May 1st.

The facility in Mill Spring, North Carolina where IHSA Nationals was held for a record third year in a row is properly named Tryon International Equestrian Center. And Haley Mannell of Kansas State University (on right) and Wildcats head coach Ann White are seen here in the Tryon indoor before the over fences phase of the Cacchione Cup Competition. A junior from Topeka, Kansas, Mannell previously was second in the Cacchione class at Zone 7 Zones on March 29th to advance through to Nationals in the division which determines the top hunter seat rider in the IHSA each season.

At 2026 IHSA Nationals we meant to take a photo of Missouri State University head coach Natalie Mook (on right) with one or two of her three Western riders qualified for the year-end show. But as dumb luck would have it this writer/photographer was on the other side of the Tryon International indoor trying to take an English photo when the Bears were in action in the Western arena. So first we will acknowledge those three riders who our camera missed. They are Hope Cabral, who was tenth in individual level I horsemanship; Bella Mccutchan, who was seventh in individual rookie horsemanship, and Bridgette Smith, whose second in individual beginner western horsemanship was the best ribbon earned by any Region 5 rider at 2026 Nationals. And we would be remiss if we did not mention the Bears won a second consecutive western region title in '26. Prior to changing the photos on this page the fourth photo down was of Sofia Reisinger of Missouri State in her Western clothes after a ninth in individual rookie horsemanship at 2024 IHSA Nationals. And since we had an unused photo of Reisinger and Mook taken at 2025 Nationals we thought we would use it here. A senior From Plano, Texas this season, Reisinger qualified for 2026 Regionals in the limit flat division.
