IHSA ZONE 7 - REGION 3

Her name is Dakota and she competes for North Dakota State University! Dakota Tierney of NDSU (on left, with Bison head coach Tara Swanson) was the first Zone 7, Region 3 Western rider to compete at 2024 IHSA Nationals, riding in the first Western class held on May 3rd. A sophomore from Manvel, North Dakota, Tierney placed fourth in a field of twelve riders in the individual ranch riding division.

2024 IHSA Nationals were run differently than the previous events all the way back to 1998, in that both Western and English Classes were held at the same time in separate rings. This allowed Nationals to take place in three days rather than four for the first time since 2003. Only a short time after Tierney competed in the western ring Katie Ripple of the University of Wisconsin at River Falls (on left) competed in the hunter seat ring. Seen here with "Otto" and Falcons hunter seat coach Rachael Walker, the junior from Madison, Wisconsin was seventh in individual limit over fences. Though the Falcons had a full western team entered it was Ripple who earned the school's first ribbon of the three-day weekend.

The University of Minnesota at Crookston has now won six consecutive Zone 7, Region 3 hunter seat titles and ten hunter seat titles since 2010. Gabriella Siefkes (pictured) finished nine points ahead of teammate Juliana Gullo to lead the Region 3 hunter seat open rider standings in 2023-24. A senior from Aberdeen, South Dakota, Siefkes was second at Zones on March 30th in both individual open flat and individual open over fences to earn a pair of rides at Nationals on May 3rd.

While Sydney Hill of the University of Wisconsin at River Falls (on left) graduated around the time of 2024 Nationals her sister Kallie (on right) returns for one more season in 2024-25. Kallie Hill concluded her junior year by placing sixth in team ranch riding which was the first Western class of the day on May 4th (the middle day) at 2024 IHSA Nationals. Since this group of schools was named Zone 7, Region 3 in mid-2010 the Falcons have won a Western Region Title five times (each since 2014).
