Back in January we told University of California at San Diego captain Taylor Coe that we would post her 2010 Regionals photo of the Tritons the next time we changed the photos on our Zone 8 page. Though it may be an oldie at this point we are true to our word! Coached by Dennis Campbell (partially obscured, on left in back row), UCSD finished second in the Region 2 hunter seat team standings for the 2010-11 season.

Coached by Jill Pelzel (third from right), the University of Colorado at Boulder was one of five IHSA programs to send a full hunter seat team to IHSA Nationals for the first time during the 2010-11 season. Whitney Wickes (third from left), a junior from Aspen, Colorado was sixth in team intermediate over fences to score Colorado's first-ever IHSA Nationals team point on May 6th.

Region 2: The University of California at Los Angeles (simply UCLA to the masses) officially competed in IHSA shows for the first time in the fall of 2003. By May of 2004 the Bruins had their first-ever IHSA Nationals rider in Sarah Phaklides, who just missed out on winning the individual intermediate flat in Murfreesboro. The following fall Phaklides wrote a piece for us about the origins of the UCLA team. In this writer's view, Phaklides' piece is the finest 'outside' work that has appeared on Campus Equestrian since the site went live in 2002...

Region 3: No Utah State University rider had ever won a class at IHSA Nationals before May of 2010. A Utah State junior took care of that with the top rail score and third best reining score in the individual AQHA Trophy Class. He even won the individual open reining class the same weekend...

Region 4: Though they had yet to see a rider finish below second through five team classes, Oregon State University did not clinch first place at the March 2010 Semifinal in Cazenovia, New York until the final division. It may have been a long trip but at the end of the day the Beavers not only won they had been in first place the entire Semifinal contest...

Region 5: Since 2000 the University of Nebraska at Lincoln has been in four different Zones nevermind four different regions. Prior to the fall of 2002 the Cornhuskers were in Zone 6, Region 4. From fall of 2002 to 2008 Nebraska was in Zone 9, Region 3. For the following two seasons they were in Zone 7, Region 1 and starting in the fall of 2010 were in the new Zone 8, Region 5. During the 2006-07 season the Cornhuskers qualified for one of the first-ever Semifinal shows. Nebraska travelled to the Fairplex in Pomona, California in March of 2007 where they faired well enough to earn Reserve Champion honors and send a full western team to IHSA Nationals in West Springfield, Massachusetts...
