IHSA ZONE 3 - REGION 4

She rode Subway to victory in a town with no underground rail system! She is Eliza Taub of Lehigh University (pictured) and the freshman from New York City won her IHSA debut at Phoenix Rising Farm in Milford, New Jersey on October 1st. Taub rode a horse named "Subway" in the first section of novice equitation and defeated eight other riders to start her college riding career undefeated!

A skateboard mishap kept Connor Port of Lafayette College (on right) from competing at that same October 1st show which was co-hosted by Lehigh and Lebanon Valley College. But Leopards head coach Kelly Poff (on left) said that day Port would soon be out of novice equitation as he would need only one point to go to Regionals in the division.

East Stroudsburg University head coach Pat Speziale (center) stands between Makenna Peet (on left, a senior from New Foundland, Pennsylvania) and Erika Unger (a freshman from Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania) at that same Lehigh/LVC show on October 1st. Peet kicked off her senior year with a first in the lone section of Pre-Novice while Unger's first IHSA ride resulted in a second in the second of three sections of novice equitation.

University of Scranton head coach Elly Culotta (on left) has a freshman in 2023-24 who already knows a thing or two about the IHSA. She is open rider Cecilia Penfield (on right), whose mother Mimi Penfield is the head coach of Binghamton University in Zone 2, Region 1. The Royals were third at Phoenix Rising on 10/1, scoring 19 points behind runner-up Lafayette with 28 and Delaware Valley University with 41.

Though he is seen here after winning the open flat class at Zone 3, Region 2 Regionals last March 24th Evan Holt of Delaware Valley University was reserve high point rider at the Region 4 season opener which was the Aggie's debut in the region. Holt managed this with a first in open fences and a third in open flat which also gave the junior from Glenmoore, Pennsylvania a one point lead in the Region 4 open rider standings at the time. Though we are still waiting for a points update following the first show we have learned that Delaware Valley won the first three shows of the season. Then Rutgers won their home show on October 28th and Del Val and Lafayette tied for high point team at the November 4th Moravian/East Stroudsburg show. And the Aggies lead the Region 4 team standings overall headed into the winter break.
