Hey-Hey-Hay Lindsay Barton. You're going to Nationals! The Miami of Ohio standout won two individual and one team class at Zone 6 Zones on April 17th.

ZONE 6 ZONES PROVIDES REAL DRAMA AT THE END

Findlay, OH - Stock Seat was held in the morning. Hunter Seat was held in the afternoon. Stock Seat was held at the University of Findlay's South Campus. Hunter Seat was held at Findlay's East Campus. The Stock Seat Team Competition was all but settled by the fifth team class. The Hunter Seat Team Competition went down to the last class. When everything was over, the hosts had the top Stock Seat Team in the zone and the number two Hunter Seat Team, both of which would be going on to IHSA Nationals.

Though Findlay will be sending english and western teams to Nationals, it was almost interstate rival Ohio State with the destinction. The buckeye western team finished second to Findlay in the morning, securing their nineteenth straight trip to IHSA Nationals in the Stock Seat Team Competition. The Ohio State Hunter Seat Team has never competed at Nationals, but for six Hunter Seat Team Classes the buckeye english riders stayed even with Findlay for second. Through seven Ohio State only trailed by a point. However Katie Johnston's second blue ribbon of the day (the other in individual open flat) secured second place for the oilers. Johnson won Team open flat to give Findlay 42 while Ohio State finished third with 39.

Another aspect to the Hunter Seat Team Competition was the return of Lori Cramer to the East Campus. Cramer was Head Coach at Findlay 2000-2004 during which time she took the oilers to Nationals all four seasons, winning the National Championship in 2001 and finishing reserve the last two seasons. Cramer was back in her old stomping grounds, but this time as the first year Hunter Seat Head Coach at Ohio State. In spite of the buckeyes' third place finish at Zones, Ohio State won their region for the first time ever and Cramer, who essentially inherited a perenial third-place Region 1 team, had as much impact as any first-year coach at an IHSA program this season.

High Point Hunter Seat Team honors went to Miami of Ohio, which finished third in each of the first two team fences divisions but then won five straight team classes and finished with 47 points. Sophomore Lindsay Barton lead the way for the red hawks with a blue ribbon in Team Intermediate Flat while also winning both individual novice classes.

The Stock Seat Team Competition was more one-sided. Led by AQHA Cup qualifier Jake Bowman, who won both Team Open Classes (and who advanced to Nationals in both individual open classes), Findlay won four of six team classes while finishing second in two others. Ohio State won the other two team classes and finished second three other times in claiming second place with 33 points. Morehead State was third with 25.

Michigan State's Laura Warner was the only other individual besides Bowman and Barton to earn a pair of undergraduate individual rides at Nationals. Warner was second in both novice classes that Barton won. The alumni divisions were more for show than anything else, as only two western riders and one hunter seat rider took part. In each case, these riders will move on to Nationals at Eden Park Equestrian Complex in Sunbury, Ohio May 5th through 8th.
