Ashley Kelly of Savannah College of Art & Design won the first class of the day at 2004 Regionals, taking home a blue ribbon in open flat.

ZONE 5, REGION 3 REGIONALS RESULTS

Garden City, GA - Savannah College of Art & Design won early and often. College of Charleston won later & often. When Zone 5, Region 3 Regionals were over, the two schools advanced 13 of the 22 hunter seat rides to Zone 5 Zones at Berry College on April 3rd.

Region 3 hunter seat champion team Savannah College of Art & Design ended the day with five riders moving on to Zones, including three that will each ride twice. Jordan Siegel was second to teammate Ashley Kelly in open flat, then won unoppossed in open fences. Jessica Brown was second in intermediate fences and third in open flat, while Karen Carter was second in novice fences and third in novice flat. Charleston qualified five riders in five separate divisions.

The University of Florida also advanced three riders, including Jamie Hack twice (first in intermediate fences, second in intermediate flat), while four other schools were also able to advance at least one rider, including Robert Hale of Georgia Tech, who by placing second in walk-trot may be the first yellow jacket rider in team history to qualify for Zones.

Due to only three or fewer riders qualifying in each western division, there were no stock seat classes at today's show. All Region 3 western riders go directly to Zones to face competition from Regions 1 and 2. Western Zones take place on April 4th while today's survivors try again the day before, on Saturday, April 3rd. Those who place in the top two at Zone 5 Zones will advance to IHSA Nationals May 6th through 9th in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
