Hannah Schremser of the University of the South had as
good a day as anyone at Zone 5, Region 1 Regionals. Schremser won both Hunter
Seat Novice Classes on March 27th.
ZONE 5, REGION 1 REGIONALS RESULTS
Maryville, TN - A trip to the eastern time zone proved to be successful
for many central time zone schools. Stock seat region champions Middle
Tennessee State University advanced the
most rides, with six hunter seat riders and four stock seat riders extending
their seasons. Blue raiders Rusty Rea (both open stock seat divisions) and
Rachael Hunt (second in open flat and intermediate fences) each earned two
rides at Zones. Hunter seat region champions the University of the South
were nearly as successful as the blue raiders, with the sewanees advancing
five hunter seat riders and three stock seat riders to Zones, with Hannah
Schremser going to Rome (Georgia) for two rides, having won both hunter seat
novice classes.
Vanderbilt graduates Mawghan McCabe and Julie Neumann may not have won a
blue ribbon between them, but both swapped second and third place ribbons in
the hunter seat alumni classes. Middle Tennessee State graduate Alison
Brannon (if you are reading this, please e-mail us and tell us if it is one
"L" or two in your first name. We will only take your word for it-ed.) won
the alumni flat and alumni rail, making her the only alumni rider in the
region to reach Zones in both hunter seat and stock seat divsions. Brannon
also placed second to Murray State graduate Krista Dausman in alumni reining.
All in all, eight of the ten Region 1 schools advanced at least one english
or one western rider to Zones hosted by Region two's Berry College on April
3rd and 4th (hunter seat will be on the third while stock seat will be on the
fourth). In addition, the sewanees will take a full hunter seat team while
the blue raiders will take a full stock seat team to Zones for the team
competition. The top two teams, as well as the top two riders in each
individual class will advance to IHSA Nationals May 6th through 9th in
Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Perhaps a chance for the schools in Eastern
Tennessee to try their luck in the central time zone.
