Though this picture was taken at Hickory Run Farm,
and though it is Penn head coach Dawne Morrone getting a hug from
then-intermediate rider Dina Gordon, it is not from Region 2 Regionals,
at which time Gordon probably gave Morrone an even bigger hug if that is
possible!
ZONE 3, REGION 2 HUNTER SEAT REGIONALS RESULTS
Newtown, PA - Score four for the Keystone State, and four for the first
State. The University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware
each advanced four riders to Zone 3 Zones during the annual Region 2
Regional show. It should be noted that most of the riders who advanced
for Penn are not from the State of Pennsylvania while more riders from
Pennsylvania than Delaware advanced for the fighting hens!
In plain english, this means that Dina Gordon (intermediate fences),
Shahnaz Radjy (same), Katie Carssow (open fences) and Janine Stichter
(intermediate flat) are all going to Zones for Penn while Ashley Leighton
(open flat), Sara Holland (intermediate fences), Kim Melnick (novice
flat) and Sharon Bryant (same) are all going to Zones for the University
of Delaware. High point hunter seat team Delaware Valley College
advanced two riders, while Franklin & Marshall College did likewise.
Kristen Hummel (first in intermediate fences) and Laura Pregenzer
(first in advanced walk-trot-canter) extended their seasons for the
aggies while Keren Mitchell (open flat) and Jen Jones (walk-trot)
continued to Zones for the diplomats. Four other riders from as many
teams also get to play again next Saturday in Farmington, PA.
Delaware Valley College assistant hunter seat coach/head stock seat
coach Joanne Coniglio was first in alumni flat and second in alumni
fences. Another Del Val alum, Dawn Kaufman, was second to Coniglio on
the flat while yet another DVC graduate, Jamie Mast, was first in alumni
fences. Kaufman, who will ride in a hunter seat class at Zones for the
first time, is already going to IHSA Nationals in the alumni reining
division. Kaufman placed second in the division at Zone 3 Western Zones
on March 27th.
Hunter Seat High Point Team Delaware Valley will take a full team to
Zones for the first time in ten years, facing defending Zone 3 Champ
Penn State, Stony Brook University and Kutztown University, with the
top two going on to IHSA Nationals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee May 6th
through 9th.
