Her mother coaches at Rochester Institute of Technology, yet Leslie Miller (center) rides for S.U.N.Y. - Geneseo. On the left is Geneseo head coach Kim Sanford while on the right is her mother, Gail Miller. All three are happy that Leslie was second in Open Fences at Zone 2, Region 2 Regionals on March 27th, as the top three in each class advance to Zone 2 Zones.

ZONE 2, REGION 2 REGIONALS RESULTS

Cazenovia, NY - Cazenovia advanced nine rides while Saint Lawrence advanced seven during Zone 2, Region 2 Hunter Seat Regionals. Intermediate rider Frank Bassett of Cazenovia placed in the top two in both flat and fences while Marilyn Sturges, who rode for S.U.N.Y. - Oswego last season, made the top three in both novice divisions for Rochester Institute.

No alumni classes were held today, though both Cazenovia graduate Allyson Thibodeau and S.U.N.Y. - Oswego head coach Alicia Fereday will advance directly to Zones as they were the only alumni qualifiers from Region 2. Fereday will ride in alumni fences while Thibodeau will ride in both alumni divisions.

All 23 undergraduate riders who advanced today (only two walk-trot riders took part in that division) and the alumni will compete against the survivors of Zone 2, Region 3 Regionals (which took place down the street at Morrisville State College at roughly the same time as Region 2 Regionals) and the survivors of Zone 2, Region 1 Regionals on April 4th. The lucky few from each of these three regions will ride at Zone 2 Zones, which are hosted by Region 2 this season at Cazenovia College on Friday, April 9th. Cazenovia will also take part in the team competition, as the wildcats were high point hunter seat team this season. Cazenovia will take on Centenary College from Region 1 and Skidmore College from Region 3, with the top two teams advancing to IHSA Nationals May 6th through 9th in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Region 2 Stock Seat Regionals were held the following Wednesday evening. With the top three in each class advancing to Zones, and with no more than three qualified in all but one division, the show was mostly a formality. Katie Fistner of Cazenovia, who was once again the leading stock seat open rider in the region, won open horsemanship while teammate Kristen Lajeunesse edged her out in open reining. Novice horsemanship had only one qualifier, this in the person of Cazenovia's Karen Sinnott. Intermediate horsemanship was the only class with more than three qualified. Heather Reynolds of Cazenovia won the class, best in a field of eight. All the stock seat Zone 2 Zones qualifiers came from Cazenovia except in the beginner horsemanship class, where Larissa Perlmutter of Syracuse took the blue over orangeman teammate Rachel Farrow. Following the Syracuse-only class came the alumni divisions, with SUNY - Cortland graduate Paige Flaherty in a SUNY - Oswego sandwich between Shannon Whitney and Alicia Fereday. Whitney was first, Flaherty second and Fereday third in both alumni divisions.

Cazenovia will host Stock Seat Zones on April 10th, the day after Hunter Seat stage Good Friday Zones. The wildcats will face Region 3 annual winner Morrisville State College (formerly SUNY - Morrisville) and the Centenary Cyclones, narrow three-point winners over the United States Military Academy and taking a stock seat team to Zones for the first time.
