From left to right are Darren Bann, Head Coach Amy Bisaro and Audra Ravo of
Ithaca College. Bann won both the intermediate flat and fences at Region 3 Hunter Seat Regionals
on March 27th.
ZONE 2, REGION 3 REGIONALS RESULTS
Morrisville, NY - Morrisville State College hosted both Hunter Seat
and Stock Seat Regionals over the March 27th/28th weekend, with Hunter
Seat starting the proceedings.
Hunter Seat Region Champion Skidmore College advanced the most
individual rides on the first day, sending seven thoroughbreds to Zone
2 Zones on April 9th. Three came from the open division, where Liz
Anderson (first in open fences), Lisa Hilberg (third in open fences)
and Ashley Woodhouse (first in open flat) all extended their seasons.
Senior Jaime Jansen was fourth in both divisions, but will ride at IHSA
Nationals as the Region 3 high point open rider for 2003-04. Jansen
will compete in the Cacchione Cup Competition a second consecutive
season.
Darren Bann of Ithaca College had the best day of anyone, winning
both of the intermediate classes. Three separates schools under the
SUNY system won classes, though two are offically known today without
the SUNY prefixes. Sophia Stolarcyk of host Morrisville State
(formerly SUNY - Morrisville) won the novice over fences, while Barbara
Ehlen of Binghamton University won walk-trot and Kimberly Ringer of
SUNY - Cobleskill won advanced walk-trot-canter.
Cornell University, reserve high point hunter seat team in 2003-04
did not win a class outright, but did advance four riders to Zones.
Asta Torokvei (open fences), Megan Gates (intermediate flat), Lindsey
Quick (advanced walk-trot-canter) and Jes Enes (walk-trot) all placed
in reserve, giving the big red four red ribbons to take back to Ithaca.
Region champ Skidmore will take a full team to Zones on April 9th
in Cazenovia, New York. The throughbreds will take on Centenary
College from Region 1 and host Cazenovia from Region 2, with the top
two teams advancing to IHSA Nationals.
Region 3 Champion Stock Seat Team Morrisville State College
dominated Western Regionals the next day, advancing
12 of a possible 15 riders to Zone 2 Zones. Jacob Burger and Jamie Abel
advanced in both open divisions, while mustang riders won each of the
five classes with more than one entry. And six if you count the Novice
Division.
Stolarcyk became the first rider from the region
to qualify for the post-season in the brand-new Novice Western division.
Because no one else reached 35 points within Region 3 in that division,
Stolarcyk advanced directly to Zones. Though normally the top three in
each class at Regionals advance to Zones, it is quite possible the Novice
Western Class will be made up of only six riders at most on April 10th,
giving Stolarcyk a better shot than most of her teammates at advancing
to IHSA Nationals on an individual basis.
Morrisville will also take a full team to Zones on April 10th, facing
host Cazenovia College from Region 2 and Centenary College from Region 1,
the latter winning their region in stock seat for the first time.
