MOUNT HOLYOKE DOMINATES REGIONALS

Northampton, MA - Led by novice rider Crissey Hewitt (with two firsts) and open rider Lauren Morlock (a first and a second), Mount Holyoke dominated 2004 Zone 1, Region 3 Regionals, advancing 9 riders and 11 rides to Zone 1 Zones.

The lyons won six of eight classes outright, while nine of the eighteen Mount Holyoke riders who competed earned at least one ride at Zone 1 Zones the following week. Mount Holyoke was especially dangerous once the jumps came down, as the lyons placed first AND second in three of the five flat classes.

Becker College freshman Mary Omelenchuck became the first Region 3 rider not from either Mount Holyoke, UMass or Smith to qualify for Zone 1 Zones in two seasons when she placed first in intermediate fences. The other non-Holyoke riders to advance were Jacqueline Broder of Smith (second in novice fences to Hewitt) and Amy Lowrey (second in open fences to Morlock), Annie Bickford (second to Mount Holyoke's Sara Royston in walk-trot) and Erica Webb (first in advanced walk-trot-canter) of UMass at Amherst.

Mount Holyoke will also have a full hunter seat team at Zone 1 Zones next Saturday at the Stoneleigh-Burnham School, this as a result of being overall high point team in Region 3 for the eighth season in a row.
