Seen here as a freshman at 2005 IHSA Nationals, senior
Calantha Bandy is one of eight Saint Mary of the Woods College riders to advance
from Zone 9, Region 1 Western Regionals to Semifinals in Cazenovia, New York on
March 29th and 30th.
TOOT YOUR HORN: THE WESTERN REGIONALS INFORMATION (AND LOST & FOUND) YOU SENT US!
Campus Equestrian frequently receives e-mails from riders, coaches, parents
and other hangers-on. Many of these e-mails request that we share information
provided to us concerning shows in their area. Of late we have been bombarded
with results from Western Regional shows, in most cases with the top two
placings, as these are the individuals who will now compete at one of the
three Semifinal shows this coming weekend (March 29th and 30th).
Inactive for two months, we revive our "Toot Your Horn" segment, created
for e-mails we receive which fit the bill. As was the case the first time we
presented "Toot...", our first e-mail comes from a rider who competes for
Saint Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. Allison Kralovansky, who at one
time was a member of Zone 9, Region 1 rival Purdue University, has forwarded
the top two from her region's western regionals. As you will see,
Kralovansky's current team faired much better than her former school did that
day...
This is a list of Region 1 riders who qualified for Semifinals in Cazenovia,
New York on March 29-30. The High Point Western Team for 2007-08 was Saint
Mary-of-the-Woods College. SMWC won the region by 96 points.

Cindy Morehead, the Coach of the University of Findlay Western Team and mother of Katie
Morehead, who will represent Zone 6, Region 3 in the individual AQHA Trophy class, forwarded
us not only the top two but all those who placed at Region 3 Western Regionals on March 15th.
Seeing as Findlay set a record for western points scored at 2008 Nationals, it is not as
surprising as you might think for us to say that Findlay held down the top two spots in each
of the six divisions at Regionals. We are a little sad to see no one from what is a quality
Miami of Ohio team advanced to Semi's. This Miami team would be very competitive both
individually and as a team were it not face-to-face with Findlay every week...

Campus Equestrian suffered a nasty computer crash back in early February. We
lost all e-mail addresses sent to our regular e-mail address prior to the 2nd of
the month. After we recovered what we could off the old hard drive we realised
we did not have the e-mail address of West Virginia University Western Coach
Bobby Dean, who keeps the points in his region. We are fortunate that alumni
rider and California of Pennsylvania graduate Sarah Wells was able to not only
provide us with Coach Dean's lost e-mail address, but his recent e-mail to the
region thanking many for their help and listing the top two from Regionals which
will now compete at Semifinals in Laurinburg, North Carolina on March 29th and
30th. Though Dean does not mention it, his
Mountaineers have captured the Zone 3, Region 1/3/4 Region Championship four
consecutive seasons with their latest title. West Virginia clinched the region
in the morning on March 16th, then held their Regional show moments later...
Hi everyone. I just wanted to say thanks for a great weekend. Thanks
for all the help with holding horses and taking care of the barn. Thanks
again to Juniata college for helping put away horses and cleaning the

it appears he received them through South Dakota State Head Coach Megan McGee. Here are

Oops! We had one more that we forgot about. University of Delaware Assistant Coach Betsy
Vogt sent us the placings (sort of, you will see) from the March 22nd Zone 3, Region 2
Western Regional show. Being very efficient, Vogt sent them the same day the show took
place. However we forgot we had them and e-mailed her to ask for them nearly a week after the
fact. Vogt sent them a second time and seemed to understand how things get overlooked at this
time of year. Thanks for understanding, Betsy!...

their teams well.
Thanks!

(Editor's Note: Zone 3, Region 2 holds a season-ending banquet on the evening of their Hunter
Seat Regional Show. At this banquet the top two ribbons in each English and Western Regionals
class are given out. Because this banquet is not until April 5th riders who placed first and
second at Western Regionals on the 22nd do not yet know their placing. However they are not
completely tortured, as the announcer did tell them that, "In no particular order, you are
going to Semifinals!" Strange as it may seem, riders from this region will have their ribbons
from Semi's in hand before the ribbons they rightfully won at Regionals a week earlier. Let's
hope for their sake they repeat their exact ribbons at Semi's so they can really be the life of
the party at their banquet!)
And in the lost and found department, Michigan State Western Team Captain Chelsea Shivley
circulated an e-mail around Zone 6, Region 4 about an abandoned hunter seat shirt that was
found at the MSU Pavillion either after the January 12th English show or prior to the start
of the January 13th Western shows...
Hey everyone!
I found a blue equine athletics XL hunt seat shirt at the MSU Hunt Seat
Show. If you or anyone you know lost a show shirt, please let me know! Thanks!

If you have information from a recent IHSA show, be it English or Western, please feel free to
e-mail us at Editor@campusequestrian.com and perhaps you will see it here in our Toot your
Horn section. There are many other Regional shows which have already taken place for which
we would be truly grateful for the results. And if you think you left your shirt someplace in
East Lansing, Michigan please get in touch with us and we will see if we can create a reunion.
