PHOTOS RULE ON DARTMOUTH SITE Most IHSA team sites are very serious, with specific information about how to join, what is required of each member, the cost of showing, etc. On most of the better sites team rosters and actual results are posted. A photo gallery may also be included. And in the case of one team site in New England you get all the above and the wildest sense of humor bar none. The Dartmouth College Riding Team site is this author's personal favorite, not only for the most entertaining photo gallery in the nation, but for the quotes at the end of each rider's description on the team roster page. Annie Trumpold, a junior novice rider from Homestead, Iowa (same place as Ashton Kutcher!), claims in her riding experience to have "8 years Dressage and Combined Training, tiny bit of remedial Team Penning," followed by the quote "Some people are like slinkies; they aren't really good for anything, but you just can't help but laugh when they tumble down the stairs." And this is one of the tame ones! The team photos icon leads to 92 Fall 2003 images, with pictures that range from serious competition shots to candids of the team in New York City. Not surprisingly, the page takes a moment to load, and at the very bottom of the page one can link to Spring 2003 photos, which in turn leads to Fall 2002 photos, etc. The photos have descriptions, some as funny as the rider's quotes on the roster page. And whatever you do, please don't miss the "Stowaways on the bus" photo (4/5 of the way down on the left hand side). Dare I say it, there are even a few "traditional" pages. The news page talks about the big green's success at Regionals while the team information page tells how to join, what is required of each member, the cost of showing, etc. The "Where We Ride" link goes to an entirely different web site all together, that of Morton Farm, the location of the Dartmouth Riding Center. The IHSA icon takes one directly to the IHSAinc.com site. "Our School Horses" is a comprehensive look at all the horses at Morton Farm. The most talented appears to be Nigel, who can sweep his own stall! I could go on but I do not want to spoil the fun. Please, please visit the Team Roster and Team Photos pages as they will make you feel glad to be alive. Web designer (and senior open rider/humorist) Lindsay Clayton and Sophomores riders Abby Donahue and Elyssa Gelmann have done a great job operating & updating the Dartmouth site.
