Jessica Tate of Texas A & M was one of 12 aggie riders to
win either an English or Western Class at Zone 7, Region 2 Regionals at Dick
Freeman arena on March 28th.
ZONE 7, REGION 2 REGIONALS RESULTS
College Station, TX - Hats off, or approved helmets off if you will, for Lena
Cottle and Meghan Mackey of West Texas A & M for placing second and third
respectively in intermediate fences at Zone 7, Region 2 Regionals on March 28th.
For Cottle and Mackey are the only riders, english or western, advancing to
Zone 7 Zones from Region 2 who do not ride for either Texas A & M or
Oklahoma State. In other words, Cottle and Mackey overcame obstacles bigger
than any vertical they may have jumped in the ring itself.
The aggie hunter seat team won seven of eight classes outright, while
the cowgirls advanced eight riders. Though Texas A & M won five of the six
stock seat classes the aggies and cowgirls split on the number of stock seat
Zone Qualifiers, both with nine. No matter how you divide it up, the aggies
and cowgirls dominated a region that contains 13 other equestrian teams.
Meredith Houx and Ann Marie Reubin of Texas A & M were the only hunter seat
aggie riders to advance in both classes while eight other aggie riders will
get one ride each in english classes at the West Texas A & M Horse Center in
Canyon later this week. Western rider Katie Forest of Texas A & M was the
only rider at Regionals with two blue ribbons. AQHA Cup qualifier Kristin
Dickinson of Oklahoma State claimed third place ribbons in each open
western class, but earned her best ribbon of the day with a second in
novice fences! Keep in mind at Regionals the goal in most cases is simply to
make the top three (or top two in some regions) and advance to Zones, where
everyone must make the top two to advance to IHSA Nationals May 6th through
9th in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
