THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO SHINES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER'S SHOWS
(University of Colorado at Boulder senior and open rider Kristina
Harkin wrote a press release on the Buffaloes' first two hunter seat shows
of the 2007-08 season. We are grateful to Harkin for not only submitting
her account of the meets but also for alerting us to one innacurate show
date we have since fixed on our site. If
another team within Region 1 would like to submit a story on an upcoming
show, please e-mail it to us at editor@campusequestrian.com. We enjoy
hearing various viewpoints of these shows, be they english or western, and
will happily post them in our Zone 7, Region 1 area. Stories submitted
are subject to editing as was the case with the account of the Denver
shows - Editor)
Parker, CO - The University of Colorado Equestrian Team was out in full
force despite the cold temperatures over the October 27th/28th weekend for
the Univeristy of Denver’s Zone 7, Region 1 English shows. Coach Jill
Pelzel picked her high point riders correctly, and at the end of
Saturday's show the Buffaloes were only one point away from High Point
Team. Colorado earned Reserve High Point team for the second time this
season.
Saturday morning senior Kristina Harkin won the very first class, Open
fences. Open riders and sophomores Lindsey Malo and Devon Meagher also
placed high in the same division to keep the Buffs on the board.
Intermediate rider and junior Emma Shubin, freshman Michaela Maxwell, and
freshman Stephanie Kupper earned top places with a big win on the flat by
Kupper. Novice rider and freshman Lindsey Pope earned Colorado five
points with her second place over fences. She joined junior Amanda
Promisloff in the flat to earn more top places.
Freshman Kelsey Slusser earned a big win in the Advanced
Walk-Trot-Canter division, while senior Karin Wolsheimer, junior Jessica
Steiner and freshmen Devon Marshall and Christine Pugh had other great
showings in the same division. Another freshman, Marina Nunamaker, rode
well in the Beginner Walk Trot Canter to wrap up Colorados' points for
Saturday, leaving them only one point behind High Point Team West Texas
A & M University.
Sunday was another great showing for the Buffs, with wins by Harkin
in Open Fences and Maxwell in Intermediate Fences. In the same class,
Kupper was second, and Shubin fifth. Freshman Katlyn Foley had an
exceptional first showing, with a fifth in the Intermediate flat, and
Steiner earned her first ribbon with a sixth place in Advanced
Walk-Trot-Canter.
The University of Colorado hunter seat team has their next show
November 17th in Canyon, Texas, hosted by West Texas A&M University.
The Buffaloes Western team will open their season November 3rd and 4th at
Colby Community College.
